Lidz Bros Vintage Costume Jewelry (1895-1978)
Founded in New York City in 1895, the Lidz Brothers Company was a well-known manufacturer, exporter and importer of buttons, as well as buckles and sewing accessories. In addition to buttons, the Lidz Brothers made high quality costume jewelry in Victorian, Art Deco and classical styles typical of that time.
Handcrafted using brass, copper, silver, as well as gold, art glass imitating natural stones, the pieces were marked Lidz or “Lidz Bros.” Certainly, the time-tested, high-quality Lidz jewelry, which is over 100 years old, is highly collectible.
Noteworthy, the brothers ran the company for 35 years, until their retirement. They sold the business to the New York corporation A.Y.W. Holding in 1931. The new owner continued to use Lidz trademark, successfully expanding the business and opening Lidz Bros Inc branches in other states. Among them were branches in California (1941 – 1979), Massachusetts (1946 – 1978), Missouri (1946 – 1969), Pennsylvania (1946 -1978), Texas (1959 – 1969), and more.
According to the magazine and newspaper advertisements of that time, Lidz Brothers set the trend in button design, featuring a stunning variety of fashionable collections, traditionally sold in their original boxes.
A.Y.W. Holding closed its accessory and costume jewelry production in 1978, and the company officially ceased to exist in 1981.
